FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

There are a lot of questions and even misunderstandings about hypnotherapy and hypnosis. Find answers to some of the more common questions below, as well as questions and answers about undergoing treatment at Mindgarden Hypnotherapy.

WHAT DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL LIKE?

The trance state if really very ordinary.  We're not going to do what you see on stage - no dancing around like a chicken (unless you want to) 


We go into trance a number of times a day, when we're driving, watching the TV or reading.  It's just a state of high concentration.

You'll be aware the whole time, just letting the words wash over you.  You'll be nice and relaxed but in total control.


Everyone's different and there's no right way or wrong way of doing it. People report is as a lovely relaxing experience.

WHAT IF I FALL ASLEEP? 

There are different levels of trance and some people go deeper than others, this is rarely actually sleep as you're not in long enough to go into a deep sleep.  The subconscious mind is always listening so it works regardless and I'll bring you back round at the end of the session with no problems.

WILL YOU MAKE ME DO SOMETHING I DON'T WANT TO DO?

Your brain is a clever thing and won't do what it doesn't want to, which is why you're engagement in the process is so important. I can't make you do anything you don't want to do or that would make you feel uncomfortable. No dancing around like a chicken here.

DOES IT WORK FOR EVERYONE? 

A trance state is really very ordinary so the majority of people go into trance easily. We go in and out of trance when we drive a familiar route, read or watch films so our mind is already really familiar with the process. The depth of the trance varies but this doesn't change the effectiveness. Even the critical thinkers who never switch off who say "I can't be hypnotised, it won't work for me" yep even you guys.
Like any therapy your engagement and wanting to feel better is what's most needed for it to be effective.*

WHAT DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL LIKE?

Being in a total state of relaxation. Some people say they feel heavy and some say they feel floaty.  We get you nice and relaxed so you can just drift and dream, it's an enjoyable feeling of being calm and relaxed but still fully in control.

WHAT IF IT'S NOT FOR ME?

The initial consultation is where I get to know you a little bit more and explain the process. There's no obligation at all to book in after this if you feel like it's not something that's suited to you. We're all different and you have to invested for it to be succesful. So if you think it's not for you, that's OK but it's massively succesful for a number of different things so why not try it and see?
